India’s military leadership has said that Operation Sindoor sent a clear message that “no sanctuary is safe” for terrorists operating from Pakistan, underlining a major shift in India’s counterterror doctrine.

Speaking at a press conference marking the anniversary of the operation, Rajiv Ghai said the mission demonstrated India’s willingness to strike terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and beyond with precision and strategic clarity. He described the operation as “just the beginning” rather than an isolated response.

Operation Sindoor was launched following the Pahalgam terror attack and involved coordinated strikes on multiple terror-linked targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Indian military officials said the operation reflected a new approach aimed at denying safe havens to militant groups allegedly operating with support from across the border.

Military officials also highlighted the role of indigenous defence systems and multi-domain coordination between the Army, Air Force, and Navy during the operation. According to Lt Gen Ghai, the campaign showcased how India combined precision strikes, intelligence integration, and rapid execution to achieve operational goals.

The remarks are likely to increase pressure on Pakistan, which has repeatedly denied allegations of providing sanctuary to terror groups. However, Indian officials argued that the operation exposed vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s security infrastructure and demonstrated that militant bases could no longer operate without fear of retaliation.

Security analysts say the statements reinforce India’s evolving strategy of proactive deterrence, where cross-border terror attacks are met with direct and calibrated military responses. The messaging from Indian commanders also signals that future operations could follow if similar threats emerge.

The anniversary event has once again brought the spotlight on Pakistan’s handling of terror networks, with critics arguing that continued allegations of safe havens have increasingly damaged Islamabad’s international credibility.
