Only One Neighbour Is Troublesome Rajnath Singh Issues Veiled Warning to Pakistan on Pahalgam Attack Anniversary

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a sharp and symbolic warning to Pakistan on the first anniversary of the 2025 Pahalgam attack, stating that “only one neighbour is troublesome” while cautioning against any future provocation.
Speaking during an interaction with the Indian community abroad, Singh refrained from naming Pakistan directly but made his message clear. He warned that if a neighbouring country “tries to create trouble,” India’s response would follow — leaving the statement deliberately incomplete with the phrase “dot, dot, dot,” signalling a strong but unspecified retaliation.
The Defence Minister подчеркed that India has historically not initiated aggression. However, he asserted that the country is fully prepared to respond decisively if provoked. “All neighbours are fine, only one is troublesome,” he remarked, in an apparent reference to Pakistan.
Stronger military posture
Highlighting India’s defence preparedness, Singh pointed to the success of Operation Sindoor carried out after the Pahalgam attack, saying the armed forces have demonstrated enhanced capability. He added that India’s military strength has grown significantly in recent years.
Context: Pahalgam attack anniversary
The remarks came as the country marked one year since the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir. The anniversary has been observed with tributes across the country and renewed calls for a firm stance against terrorism.
Message to adversaries
Singh’s statement reinforces India’s continuing “zero tolerance” policy on terrorism and serves as a warning against cross-border threats. His use of an unfinished phrase — “dot, dot, dot” — has been interpreted as a deliberate signal that India’s response to any future aggression would be strong and possibly unpredictable.
