British consumer technology brand Nothing has officially confirmed that its upcoming Phone 3a series will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), CEO Carl Pei announced that the company is moving back to Snapdragon for the Phone 3a after using MediaTek Dimensity chipsets in last year’s A-series models. Along with this shift, he highlighted several improvements, particularly in the camera system and overall performance, making the new phone a significant upgrade over its predecessor.
Pei stated that Nothing has carefully considered user feedback to refine the next A-series smartphone. One of the key areas of focus has been the camera, with improvements expected in both hardware and processing capabilities. He also noted that the Qualcomm processor in the Phone 3a will offer a 25% increase in CPU performance and a 72% boost in NPU performance compared to the Phone 2a Plus. This substantial jump is expected to enhance the phone’s ability to process data, particularly for AI-powered features that Nothing is planning to introduce this year.
In terms of design, the Phone 3a is likely to maintain Nothing’s signature transparent back and Glyph lighting interface. However, some notable changes might be introduced, including a horizontally aligned rear camera setup similar to the Phone 2a, but with an additional third sensor, which could be a telephoto lens. Reports suggest that at least one model in the series may feature a 50MP telephoto camera, paired with a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. On the front, the device is expected to house a 32MP selfie camera, offering improved clarity for video calls and self-portraits.
The display is rumored to be a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel, providing vibrant colors and smooth visuals, while a 5000mAh battery is expected to offer extended usage. The phone will run on Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.1, bringing the latest software enhancements and optimizations.
With the launch set for March 4, the Nothing Phone 3a series is shaping up to be a promising addition to the brand’s lineup, offering improved performance, enhanced photography, and a refined user experience.
