The International Cricket Council (ICC) is pushing forward with plans to host Bangladesh's T20 World Cup 2026 games in two Indian venues—Chennai and Trivandrum—dismissing suggestions to shift them to Sri Lanka. This move aims to settle a brewing controversy sparked by security concerns raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), ensuring the tournament stays on track as February kickoffs approach.

The issue gained traction after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested the release of Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, amid reports of minority attacks in Bangladesh. The BCB responded with two formal letters to the ICC, flagging risks for their players traveling to scheduled venues Kolkata and Mumbai. Bangladesh's fixtures include clashes against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9, England on February 14 in Kolkata, and Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.

ICC officials have rejected Sri Lanka as an option to prevent broader scheduling disruptions across the multi-nation event. Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, already slated for seven matches with its eight prepared pitches, and Trivandrum's Greenfield International Stadium have received nods from local bodies TNCA and KCA. These southern hubs offer robust infrastructure, with Chennai's IPL pedigree promising fan-favorite action and Trivandrum providing a fresh, neutral setting post-recent upgrades.

BCB president Aminul Islam indicated government input will shape their stance, though ICC's insistence on India-first hosting limits alternatives—potentially leading to forfeits if unmet. Fans anticipate vibrant atmospheres in these cities, mirroring past successes like Chennai's electric IPL nights, which could transform the row into a tournament highlight.
