On Monday, the NCP (SP) dismissed reports claiming there was a demand for the replacement of Jayant Patil as the head of the Maharashtra unit, following the party’s poor performance in the state assembly elections last year. NCP (SP) spokesperson Pravin Kunte described these reports as "baseless" and suggested they were intended to tarnish Patil’s reputation.
The party had recently held a two-day meeting in Mumbai, analyzing its dismal performance in the November state assembly polls, where it secured only 10 out of the nearly 90 seats it contested in the 288-member assembly. The meeting was attended by party chief Sharad Pawar, working president Supriya Sule, and state head Jayant Patil.
Kunte emphasized that following the meeting, several media outlets spread false reports claiming there were discussions about removing Patil from his position.
