Marvel Studios announces cast for highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, and Letitia Wright are among the confirmed stars of Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios revealed the highly anticipated film's cast during a nearly five-and-a-half-hour livestream on Wednesday, March 26. In the unique event, a new chair featuring an actor’s name was unveiled every 12 minutes.
Alongside Chris (Thor), Tom (Loki), Paul (Ant-Man), and Letitia (Black Panther), other MCU actors joining the film include Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell (US Agent), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon), and Winston Duke (M'Baku).
The film also sees the return of several actors from the X-Men franchise, including Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast). Additionally, Thunderbolts stars Lewis Pullman (Bob), David Harbour (Red Guardian), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost) will appear, along with members of the Fantastic Four cast: Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch).
Notably absent from the casting announcement were Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). The livestream concluded with Robert Downey Jr., now confirmed to play Doctor Doom, making a dramatic entrance in a suit before signaling the audience to stay silent with a "shush" gesture.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo, returning to Marvel after Avengers: Endgame (2019), expressed their belief that no one but Robert Downey Jr. could portray Doctor Doom. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Anthony Russo, 55, stated: "We can't explain that as it's part of the story, but there's nobody else in the world who could play this character the way he's about to."
Avengers: Doomsday, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, marks a new chapter in the MCU. The Russo brothers explained that their return aims to bring back a stronger central narrative, with Joe Russo, 53, describing these films as a "new beginning" for the franchise. Reflecting on their past work, Joe told Omlete: "We had the chance to tell the conclusion of a 20-movie arc. Now, we're telling a beginning story. And then, who knows where it will go from there?"
