Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Unveils AR Rahman's Musical Tribute to Asha Bhosle

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a special musical tribute dedicated to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle at an event in Mumbai. The tribute song, titled “Asha Forever,” has been composed by renowned music maestro AR Rahman. The event was attended by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar and singer Zanai Bhosle, bringing together prominent personalities from the state’s political and cultural circles to celebrate the enduring legacy of the iconic singer.

Fadnavis also shared details of the tribute on social media, describing Asha Bhosle’s voice as a timeless source of energy, emotion and inspiration. He said Rahman had created the composition to honour her extraordinary musical journey and preserve her legacy for generations to come. Born on September 8, 1933, Asha Bhosle went on to build one of the most remarkable careers in Indian music. Over several decades, she established herself as one of the country's most versatile playback singers, performing across a wide range of genres including classical music, ghazals, romantic melodies, cabaret and contemporary popular music.

Asha Bhosle was born into the renowned Mangeshkar family and was the daughter of classical singer and theatre personality Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. She began her musical journey at a young age and eventually carved out a distinct identity in the Indian film industry through her powerful voice and exceptional versatility.

Her long association with composer RD Burman produced several memorable songs and remains one of the most celebrated musical collaborations in Hindi cinema. Some of her best-known performances include “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Dum Maro Dum,” “Dil Cheez Kya Hai,” “Chura Liya Hai Tumne” and “Yeh Mera Dil,” reflecting the extraordinary range of her singing.

Throughout her career, Asha Bhosle received numerous honours for her contribution to Indian music, including the Padma Vibhushan. Her extensive recording career also earned international recognition, including a Guinness World Record for the volume of studio recordings attributed to her. Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind a vast musical catalogue that continues to resonate with listeners across generations. The release of “Asha Forever” is intended to celebrate that remarkable contribution and keep her artistic legacy alive for audiences in India and around the world.
