A high-powered delegation of more than 200 Indian industrialists and investors visiting Japan is expected to strengthen economic ties between the two countries and attract fresh investments into Uttar Pradesh, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026, Goyal said the delegation includes representatives from major industries, women-led businesses and startups. During their visit, they are scheduled to interact with Japanese industry bodies, chambers of commerce, investors and financial institutions.

Goyal described the delegation as one of the largest business groups to travel from India to Japan, saying the visit could significantly increase Japanese investment in Uttar Pradesh and create employment opportunities on a large scale. “This will give a big boost to manufacturing and create lakhs of jobs in Uttar Pradesh,” Goyal said. According to the minister, the delegation's extensive schedule in Japan is aimed at deepening commercial relations between India and Japan while encouraging greater investment flows into the Indian economy.

Goyal also pointed to Uttar Pradesh's improving infrastructure, investor-friendly policies and focus on maintaining law and order as key factors that could make the state more attractive to Japanese companies. He said the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced policies designed to encourage manufacturing and investment, while the state's emphasis on stability and discipline could appeal to Japanese businesses.

The UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026, being held from August 18 to 23, has brought together more than 200 Japanese industrialists, corporate executives, business leaders and policymakers. The Japanese delegation is being led by Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. Nagasaki said the next phase of India-Japan economic cooperation should place greater emphasis on partnerships between businesses in both countries.

He noted that Japanese companies are showing strong interest in investing in Uttar Pradesh and expressed confidence that cooperation under the state government's leadership could turn that interest into concrete business partnerships. The governor also said that government-to-government relations between India and Japan are already strong, but deeper collaboration between private-sector companies could further strengthen the overall partnership. The ongoing discussions are expected to explore new opportunities across manufacturing, investment and entrepreneurship, potentially positioning Uttar Pradesh as a more important destination for Japanese companies looking to expand their presence in India.
