The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of severe heatwave conditions across several regions of eastern Maharashtra over the next three days, with temperatures in Vidarbha expected to remain dangerously high. Weather expert Shrikant stated that the region is already witnessing extreme heat, with temperatures touching 46.5°C, and some districts such as Amravati and Wardha could see the mercury climb beyond 47°C in the coming days.

According to him, the intense heatwave is likely to continue throughout the week, especially across the Vidarbha region, where prolonged hot and dry conditions are expected to persist. Authorities have already issued a severe heatwave alert for the next 72 hours. The IMD has also cautioned that several parts of northwestern and central India may face rising temperatures and prolonged heatwave conditions during the next seven days. IMD scientist Akhilesh Shrivastav said warnings have been issued for states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and regions such as Vidarbha, Marathwada, and central Maharashtra.

He further noted that western Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience unusually warm nights along with daytime heat, prompting the department to issue an orange alert in those areas. Similar orange alerts have been announced for Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha due to the possibility of severe heatwave conditions.

Apart from the northern and central states, eastern and southern regions are also expected to face difficult weather conditions. Odisha may witness hot and humid weather over the next few days, while coastal Andhra Pradesh could experience heatwave conditions soon. Delhi-NCR is also expected to remain under intense heat stress. Temperatures in the national capital recently hovered between 42°C and 43°C, and forecasts suggest they may rise to 45°C within the next three days. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi for the next two days due to the likelihood of isolated heatwave conditions.

While most parts of northwest India are expected to remain dry, southern states such as Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are likely to receive rainfall. Kerala may experience heavy to very heavy showers, Karnataka could see hailstorm activity, and northeastern states are also forecast to receive intense rainfall in the coming days.
