The Indian Air Force (IAF) has begun the operational phase of Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 at Air Force Station Jodhpur, a day after the exercise was formally inaugurated. The multinational air exercise is being conducted from September 26 to October 12, 2026, under the theme “Power in Partnership”, highlighting cooperation, operational coordination and interoperability among participating air forces.

Seven Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs) — Australia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh — are taking part in the exercise, according to the Ministry of Defence. The participating foreign aircraft include advanced platforms such as the F-35 Lightning II, Rafale and F-16, along with the A400M, MRTT, C-130, C-130J and KC-30A. The mix brings together fighter aircraft, strategic and tactical airlift platforms and aerial refuelling capabilities.

Following the first edition held in 2024, the latest exercise is designed to provide participating air forces with opportunities for complex joint training and professional interaction. Foreign contingents will conduct missions alongside IAF units, using combat aircraft and supporting assets in a variety of operational scenarios. Some other partner countries are also participating as observers.

The Ministry of Defence said the exercise will encourage interaction among aircrew, mission planners and ground support teams. Particular attention will be given to interoperability, aerospace safety, operational procedures and the exchange of practical experience. Working together in a common exercise environment is expected to help the participating forces understand each other's capabilities, methods and operational approaches.

Tarang Shakti 2026 also extends beyond flying activities. A series of professional, cultural and public-engagement programmes have been planned, including a dedicated seminar, an industrial visit for foreign contingents, the Sekhon Marathon, heritage tours and yoga sessions. These activities are intended to encourage professional networking while giving visiting personnel greater exposure to India's aerospace and defence ecosystem.

The exercise also serves as an opportunity to showcase its operational preparedness, professional standards and growing indigenous capabilities in the aerospace and defence sectors. The “Power in Partnership” theme places particular emphasis on mutual trust, coordination and the benefits of sharing operational experience.

The exercise reflects India's continued focus on defence engagement and military cooperation with partner nations. Through joint training and greater interaction between participating forces, Tarang Shakti 2026 aims to strengthen professional relationships and contribute to broader cooperation in support of regional peace and security.
