Hyderabad tech worker loses his salary to cannabis addiction, then starts cultivating it at home.

A software engineer from Hyderabad reportedly became so dependent on cannabis that he spent nearly his entire monthly income on it. Despite the financial strain, he continued his habit and eventually began cultivating the drug at his residence in Nacharam. CH Shashidhar, who had secured a job at a tech company, developed an addiction within a few months and allegedly used most of his earnings to fund it. According to an enforcement official, he ultimately left his job as he could no longer manage the situation.
After running out of money, he is said to have started growing cannabis plants on his rooftop. Acting on a tip-off, an enforcement team led by Circle Inspector Balaraj raided his house in Gandhi Nagar, Nacharam, and confiscated 17 plants. Some had begun to flower, while others had grown up to three metres tall, with an estimated yield of around 10 kg.
He was arrested and later handed over to the Ghatkesar Excise Police for further investigation. In another case, the same team apprehended two BTech students in Medipally for allegedly selling cannabis. The individuals, identified as Bandi Arun Kumar and B Ashish, were found carrying 480 grams of the substance and were taken into custody before being transferred to the Ghatkesar Excise Station.
In a separate raid in Musheerabad, officials seized 1.311 kg of a high-grade hybrid variety known as OG Kush, valued at approximately Rs 36 lakh. The accused, Rahul Singh, was arrested near the Venkateswara Swamy Temple area in Namalagundu. During questioning, he claimed the supply came from Injat Singh, who allegedly sourced it from Bangkok. A case has been filed against both individuals, though only Rahul Singh has been arrested so far.
These incidents are part of a broader increase in cannabis-related cases across Hyderabad. Since the beginning of the year, authorities have carried out multiple raids, leading to several arrests and significant drug seizures. Officials noted that many of those involved are students or working professionals, either consuming the substance or engaging in small-scale distribution for profit. Authorities have stated that enforcement efforts will intensify, with strict action planned against anyone involved in the use or distribution of cannabis.
