Government inks agreement with NTF Energy Solutions to strengthen domestic production of lightweight CNG cylinders.

The Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has entered into an agreement with Delhi-based NTF Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd to establish a manufacturing facility for indigenous Type-IV composite CNG cylinders. The initiative is aimed at promoting clean mobility and strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in India.
As per the Ministry of Science and Technology, the project, titled “Establishment of Manufacturing Facility for Commercialization of Type-IV CNG Cylinder,” will manufacture advanced composite CNG cylinders using technologies such as filament winding, blow moulding, and high-pressure testing. The project seeks to enhance India’s expertise in advanced gas storage systems for clean transportation and future energy applications, supporting the government’s clean energy objectives and the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
The Ministry highlighted that Type-IV composite cylinders are up to 75 percent lighter than conventional steel cylinders, which improves vehicle efficiency and lowers carbon emissions. These cylinders are built with corrosion-resistant polymer liners, optimized CFRP layering, and advanced mechanical locking systems for greater safety, durability, and leak resistance.
TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak stated that the development and commercialization of Type-IV composite cylinders are essential for strengthening India’s clean mobility infrastructure and boosting indigenous manufacturing. He added that TDB’s support for NTF Energy Solutions demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing next-generation technologies that promote sustainable transportation, energy security, and self-reliance. The technology has been fully developed in India by NTF Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd and is expected to support the country’s rapidly growing CNG mobility sector.
The upcoming manufacturing facility will rely on locally sourced raw materials and advanced production techniques to build a cost-effective ecosystem for high-pressure composite cylinders. The project is also expected to reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s clean-energy supply chain. Naveen Jain, Managing Director, and Naman Jain, Director of NTF Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd, said that TDB’s backing will speed up the commercialization of indigenous lightweight composite cylinder technology and support cleaner mobility solutions across India.
