Fakhar Zaman Handed Two-Match PSL Ban for Ball-Tampering Incident

Pakistan cricketer Fakhar Zaman has been suspended for two matches in the Pakistan Super League 2026 following a ball-tampering controversy during a recent league fixture.
The decision was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board after the Lahore Qalandars opener was found guilty of breaching the tournament’s code of conduct related to altering the condition of the ball. The offence falls under a Level 3 violation, which carries significant penalties under cricket regulations.
The incident occurred during a high-pressure match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings on March 29. Umpires intervened shortly before the final over after noticing irregularities in the ball’s condition. Following an inspection, they awarded a five-run penalty to Karachi Kings and replaced the ball, a move that proved crucial in the outcome of the match.
According to reports, Zaman was seen handling the ball along with teammates during a brief on-field discussion, which raised suspicions. Match officials later confirmed that the ball had been deliberately altered.
Despite denying the allegations and contesting the charge at a disciplinary hearing, the verdict upheld the offence, resulting in a two-match ban—the maximum penalty for such a breach.
As a result, Zaman will miss upcoming fixtures against key opponents, dealing a setback to Lahore Qalandars’ campaign in the ongoing tournament.
The controversy has sparked debate within the cricketing community, with former players and analysts raising concerns about fair play and the integrity of the game. The incident adds to a series of disciplinary issues that have recently affected the league.
