Delhi Police Files More Than Nine FIRs Following Attack on RAF Jawan During CJP Protest

Delhi Police has registered more than nine FIRs after a Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan was allegedly attacked during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" protest held in New Delhi on Monday. Police sources said on Wednesday that eight to nine FIRs have been filed in connection with various incidents linked to the demonstration. Among them is a case concerning the alleged life-threatening assault on the RAF personnel, with the investigation currently underway.

On Monday, Delhi Police released videos showing incidents of stone-pelting near Connaught Place. The footage allegedly captured groups of protesters throwing stones from behind barricades and moving close to police lines. Authorities appealed to demonstrators to remain peaceful, avoid violence, and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain public order.

According to officials, the protest turned violent as several participants allegedly engaged in aggressive and disorderly behaviour. Police claimed that despite repeated warnings and lawful instructions to disperse, protesters ignored the directions and violated prohibitory orders that were in force.

Delhi Police had confirmed the registration of five FIRs related to alleged violence, vandalism, and stone-pelting during the protest at Jantar Mantar. Investigators are also examining whether the clashes were pre-planned, with more than 250 videos being reviewed to identify individuals involved. The cases have been registered at Parliament Street and Connaught Place police stations under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Arms Act, 1959, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

One of the FIRs relates to the alleged use of a drone without official permission in the New Delhi district during the ongoing Parliament session. Another case focuses on an alleged conspiracy to incite violence, with investigators claiming to have gathered significant evidence during the probe. Two FIRs concern allegations of obstructing government officials, attacking police personnel, and damaging public property.

The FIR lodged at Parliament Street police station includes provisions dealing with disobeying lawful orders issued by public servants, obstructing officials in the discharge of their duties, and using criminal force or assault to prevent public servants from carrying out official responsibilities. The investigation into all registered cases remains ongoing.
