Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh held separate meetings with Greece’s Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Stefanos Gkikas, and Germany’s newly appointed Ambassador to India, Jasper Wieck, in New Delhi on Thursday. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence relations, maritime security and broader strategic cooperation. During his meeting with Gkikas on October 8, Singh discussed ways to deepen India-Greece defence and strategic ties, with particular attention to maritime security, coastal protection and shipbuilding, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The ministry highlighted that India and Greece, both significant maritime nations, share common interests in the maritime sector, including ensuring the safety and security of seafarers. The discussions underscored the potential for closer collaboration in safeguarding maritime routes and expanding cooperation in shipbuilding and coastal security.

Singh received a courtesy call from German Ambassador Jasper Wieck. The meeting covered the India-Germany defence partnership and explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries. According to the Ministry of Defence, both sides reaffirmed the importance of advancing their defence relationship as part of their wider strategic partnership.

The two meetings reflect India’s ongoing efforts to deepen defence and security engagement with European partners. While cooperation with Greece places particular emphasis on maritime affairs, India and Germany continue to explore ways to expand their bilateral defence partnership and strengthen strategic relations.
