The British rock band Coldplay's concerts in Mumbai have not only captivated fans but also sparked an intriguing connection between the band's lead singer, Chris Martin, and Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah. During the first concert at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, Martin humorously claimed that Bumrah was backstage and had requested the show to pause so he could bowl to him. However, at the second concert the next day, Martin admitted to fabricating the story.
Addressing the audience, Martin confessed, "Yesterday, I mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah asked us to stop the show because he was backstage and wanted to bowl at me. That was not true. It was a lie, and I’m really sorry." The lighthearted moment took a serious turn when Martin revealed that Bumrah had responded to his remarks.
Martin elaborated, "Today, Bumrah sent us a serious message. He said, ‘Listen, I did not give you permission to talk about me in your shows. I am the greatest bowler in the whole world.’ Out of respect and admiration for Jasprit, who is indeed number one in the world, we want to honor him by sharing this clip."
The crowd erupted in cheers as the stadium’s giant screen played a video of Jasprit Bumrah’s iconic toe-crushing yorker that dismissed England's Ollie Pope during the 2024 Test series. The tribute not only showcased Bumrah’s exceptional skills but also underscored the camaraderie and respect shared across sports and entertainment.
