BRICS Industry Ministers Meet in Jaipur to Boost Collaboration in Innovation, Clean Energy and Trade

The 10th BRICS Industry Ministers' Meeting concluded in Jaipur, Rajasthan, under India's BRICS Chairship for 2026, bringing together industry ministers and senior officials from member nations to strengthen collaboration in industrial development, technological advancement and sustainable economic growth. Organised under the BRICS Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR), the meeting was held around the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the discussions centred on creating stronger industrial ecosystems, encouraging innovation and identifying new opportunities for cooperation among BRICS countries.

Addressing the gathering, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed delegates to Jaipur, describing the city as a unique blend of India's traditional craftsmanship and its modern industrial ambitions. He stressed that shared aspirations should translate into concrete action through innovation and closer cooperation, adding that BRICS nations can benefit by leveraging each other's strengths to build resilient and competitive industries. He also highlighted PartNIR as the primary platform driving industrial collaboration within the grouping.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada reiterated India's commitment to expanding industrial partnerships among BRICS members. He underlined the importance of trust, innovation and collaboration in creating an inclusive and resilient industrial future. Recalling the evolution of BRICS since its first summit in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009, Prasada acknowledged Brazil's leadership during its 2025 Chairship. He said India aims to maintain continuity while strengthening confidence among businesses, investors and innovators through practical initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes.

During the meeting, Goyal highlighted the progress achieved under India's BRICS Chairship through the PartNIR framework. He outlined developments across four priority areas identified by India, including the finalisation of a cooperation framework for the SME Working Group, approval of the Terms of Reference and Action Plan for the Photovoltaic Industry Working Group, and completion of an innovation-focused action plan to support startups.

The minister also emphasised the need to build resilient transport and logistics networks, pointing to initiatives such as GIS-based infrastructure planning and improved city logistics systems. One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the adoption of the Joint Declaration of the Tenth BRICS Industry Ministers' Meeting, reflecting the collective resolve of member countries to move beyond discussions and implement practical measures that strengthen industries, encourage innovation and improve the quality of life.

Representatives from participating countries shared their respective industrial policies, priorities and achievements, while reaffirming their commitment to accelerating digital transformation, strengthening industrial competitiveness and building resilient manufacturing ecosystems. Delegations also praised the progress made under India's Chairship, noting that the initiatives launched this year would contribute to stronger institutional cooperation, greater innovation and future-ready industries across the BRICS bloc.

Jaipur to Host BRICS Trade Ministers' Meeting: India is also hosting the 16th BRICS Trade Ministers' Meeting in Jaipur on 7 August 2026, following the Third Meeting of the BRICS Contact Group on Economic and Trade Issues (CGETI), which was held in New Delhi on 3–4 August. The trade meeting will be chaired by Piyush Goyal and attended by Minister of State Jitin Prasada and Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, along with trade ministers and senior officials from BRICS nations.

Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the multilateral trading system, increasing MSME participation in global markets, creating more resilient and diversified global value chains, and facilitating digitally delivered cross-border services. As part of the programme, visiting delegations will also take part in a cultural tour of Jaipur's iconic landmarks, including the City Palace and Hawa Mahal, showcasing India's cultural heritage. Technical sessions will provide an opportunity for member countries to exchange views on enhancing trade and economic cooperation.

The Trade Ministers' Meeting is seen as another important milestone under India's BRICS Chairship, reinforcing the country's support for an open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based global trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its centre. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to support India's long-term Viksit Bharat 2047 vision by promoting innovation-led industrial growth, resilient supply chains, stronger MSME participation in international trade and deeper economic partnerships among emerging economies.
