The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to observe Bengal Foundation Day across West Bengal on June 20, with events planned in all districts of the state, according to party sources. The celebrations are expected to be held on a grand scale, bringing together party leaders, workers, and supporters from various regions.

Party insiders said the decision to commemorate June 20 as Bengal Foundation Day is linked to the date's historical importance. According to BJP sources, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee introduced a proposal concerning the formation of Bengal in the Bengal Legislative Assembly on June 20, a milestone the party considers significant in the state's history.

To mark the occasion, the BJP is preparing a range of programmes, including public outreach campaigns, commemorative events, and district-level gatherings throughout West Bengal. Senior party functionaries, including MPs, MLAs, and state leaders, are expected to participate in the celebrations. The event assumes added political significance as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kolkata on the same day. As per the tentative schedule, the Prime Minister is expected to attend programmes connected to the observance while also carrying out official engagements in the city.

The Prime Minister is also likely to remain in Kolkata on June 21 to take part in International Yoga Day celebrations. Preparations for the event are already underway, with authorities expecting a large turnout and widespread national attention. With Bengal Foundation Day celebrations on June 20 followed by International Yoga Day events on June 21, West Bengal is expected to attract considerable political and public attention over the two-day period.
