Bangladesh Rest Pace Trio for New Zealand T20Is, Hand Call-Ups to Ripon Mondol and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain

Dhaka: Bangladesh have opted to rest their frontline pace trio for the opening matches of the T20I series against New Zealand, unveiling a fresh-look squad that includes new faces and emerging talent.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to give key fast bowlers — including Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana — a break as part of workload management ahead of a busy international calendar.
In their absence, selectors have handed opportunities to promising pacers Ripon Mondol and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain. Saqlain, a pace-bowling all-rounder, has earned his maiden T20I call-up, while Mondol has been rewarded for his consistent performances, particularly in death overs.
The move reflects Bangladesh’s strategy to test bench strength and build depth in the shortest format. Team management believes Saqlain’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball adds balance, while Mondol’s wicket-taking skills strengthen the bowling unit.
The squad, led by Litton Das, blends experienced players with newcomers as Bangladesh prepare for a competitive home series. The first two matches are scheduled in Chattogram, with the series beginning on April 27, followed by the second game on April 29, before the final T20I in Dhaka.
Bangladesh’s decision to rotate its pace attack underlines a broader focus on long-term squad development, as the team looks to stay competitive while managing player workload during a packed schedule.
