A court in Bangladesh has granted bail to Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in one of the cases against him, though he will remain in custody due to multiple pending charges.

The order was issued by a judicial magistrate in Chattogram following a hearing. According to his legal counsel, the case in which bail was granted pertains to allegations of land grabbing, intimidation, and assault filed in 2023.

However, the relief is limited, as the monk continues to face at least six other cases, including a serious charge linked to the murder of a lawyer. As a result, his detention will continue despite the bail granted in this particular matter.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Hindu religious figure and activist, was arrested in Dhaka in November 2024 on charges of sedition. His arrest sparked significant protests and drew attention to concerns over minority rights in Bangladesh.

The monk has been a known voice advocating for the protection of Hindu minorities in the country. His legal troubles have been marked by multiple bail pleas, some of which were previously rejected or challenged in higher courts, reflecting the complex and sensitive nature of the case.

The latest development provides partial relief but underscores the continuing legal challenges faced by the monk as proceedings in other cases remain ongoing.
