Baloch Yakjehti Committee Leader Sammi Deen Baloch Released After Arrest, Calls for Freedom of All Detained Members Continue

Sammi Deen Baloch, a prominent leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has been released following her arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act. Her sister, Mehlab Baloch, confirmed the release with relief, saying, “My sister, Sammi Deen, has finally been freed.” She expressed gratitude towards Advocate Jibran Nasir, human rights activists, civil society members, and everyone who supported their cause, raised their voices, and fought for justice.
Advocate Jibran Nasir, Sammi’s lawyer, confirmed that the Sindh government had removed her name from the MPO list, facilitating her release. He highlighted the significant role played by public and media pressure in securing her freedom. However, he stressed that the MPO is still enforced against other BYC members, including Lala Wahab, Shehdad, Razik, and Sultan (a minor). He called for the full revocation of the MPO against all BYC members, emphasizing their right to peaceful protest.
In another development, BYC leader Lala Wahab Baloch has also been released and safely returned home, with his family confirming his return. Despite these releases, many BYC leaders and members remain under arrest or have disappeared, particularly in Karachi and Balochistan. Key figures like Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, and Shah Ji Sibghatullah are still in custody, while protests against these arrests and police violence against demonstrators have continued in Balochistan for the past ten days. Advocate Jibran Nasir described Sammi Deen’s release as a positive step but reiterated the call for the immediate release of all detained BYC members, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch and others held by the Balochistan government.
