Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless television series, three decades after the original 1995 film. The 48-year-old actress rose to fame playing the stylish and privileged teen in the classic teen comedy, which also starred Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd.

As reported by Variety, the upcoming series will serve as a sequel to the original movie. Alicia confirmed the news on Instagram with the caption: “Totally buggin' … in the best way.” The show will be written by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, along with Jordan Weiss. The film’s original writer and director, Amy Heckerling, will join the project as an executive producer, alongside Silverstone.

This is not the first time a Clueless TV adaptation has been attempted. A previous series aired from 1996 to 1999 with Rachel Blanchard as Cher. Another reboot was announced in 2020 for Peacock but never moved forward. Silverstone previously brought back Cher in a Rakuten Super Bowl commercial in 2023, donning the character’s signature yellow plaid outfit. She acknowledged that the ad reignited fan interest in a sequel, telling Variety that talk of a follow-up has been ongoing since the movie’s release.

In 2021, Alicia recreated a famous scene from the film on TikTok with her son Bear and later collaborated with co-star Stacey Dash to reenact another iconic moment. She also shared a tribute video last year celebrating the movie’s 27th anniversary with the caption: “27 years ago, a bad b**** was born … Happy anniversary, Cher! #Clueless #AsIf #90s.”
