In a decisive show of political unity, 26 prominent leaders from various parties have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, India's Upper House of Parliament, across multiple states. This smooth outcome follows the withdrawal of nominations, allowing these candidates to secure their seats without a contest, as announced earlier this month.

Among the unopposed winners are NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and BJP's Vinod Tawde. Maharashtra leads with seven such victories from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, alongside figures like Thambi Durai and Babul Supriyo. These elections address biennial vacancies for 37 seats in 10 states, highlighting strong party consensus where no rivals remained after the deadline.

While many states saw harmony, excitement builds for voting today in Bihar (5 seats), Odisha (4 seats), and Haryana (2 seats), totaling 11 contested spots with 14 candidates. In Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar aims for a Rajya Sabha return after years in state politics, facing off against BJP's Nitin Nabin amid cross-voting speculation.

Odisha's contest pits BJP against BJD, with each targeting two seats; surplus votes could decide a third for BJP. Haryana promises a direct NDA-opposition clash. Polls wrap up this evening, with results expected post-5 PM. This blend of uncontested wins and high-stakes votes underscores shifting alliances and strategies ahead of key legislative sessions. Stay tuned for updates on how these outcomes reshape national politics.
