10-Year-Old Girl Abducted and Killed in Gorakhpur, UP; Dial 112 Constable Arrested

A wave of anger and grief has spread across Gorakhpur after a 10-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and murdered from the premises of the district hospital. Police have detained the main accused, a constable posted with Dial 112, who is originally from Ghazipur. The victim’s family, who belong to Azamgarh, have been living in Gorakhpur for the past four years. Her father works as an e-rickshaw driver to support the family.

According to police officials, the girl’s elder sister had been admitted to the district hospital on July 27 due to health issues. At around 8:30 pm, the 10-year-old reached the hospital to bring dinner for her sister. After delivering the food, she left the hospital at nearly 9 pm but did not return home. When repeated searches inside and around the hospital failed to locate her, the family informed the police through Dial 112 and later submitted a written complaint at the local police station.

During the investigation, the victim’s elder sister told police that a man wearing a police uniform had approached them while they were having dinner. The man allegedly started a conversation by pretending to ask for directions and later offered to drop both sisters home on his motorcycle. When the elder sister declined the offer, he allegedly continued trying to convince the younger girl to go with him. Police said the suspect followed the child after she left the hospital premises.

Investigators examined CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby areas, which reportedly showed the suspect taking the girl away on a motorcycle. Police traced the vehicle’s registration details and identified the rider as Dial 112 constable Abhishek, who was subsequently taken into custody. During questioning, police said the accused confessed to the crime. Authorities also revealed that the constable had previously faced legal trouble and was jailed around a year ago in connection with rape and forgery-related cases.

The victim’s father expressed his grief and demanded strict punishment for those responsible. “My daughter had gone to the hospital only to deliver food to her sister. A policeman took advantage of her trust and abducted her. We want justice and the strictest punishment for the accused,” he told ANI. Gorakhpur SSP Dr Kaustubh said that police teams acted quickly after receiving initial information and analysed CCTV footage to identify the suspect. He added that the accused constable was arrested and that the girl’s body was recovered. Departmental action has also been initiated to remove the accused from service.

Police officials said the vehicle used in the crime was confirmed to be registered to constable Abhishek. They added that the accused allegedly abducted the girl with criminal intent, while confirmation regarding sexual assault would be determined after the post-mortem examination report. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken in the case, and proceedings for the accused constable’s dismissal from the police department have already begun.
