Sonam Wangchuk Calls Off 26-Day Hunger Strike Following Government Assurances on Paper Leak Issue

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has brought his 26-day hunger strike to an end after receiving assurances from the Centre that peaceful protesters involved in the movement against exam paper leaks will not face legal action. He ended his fast in the presence of Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh following multiple rounds of talks and formal written commitments from the government. The Centre also indicated that it is favorably considering financial assistance for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with recent exam paper leak incidents. Despite Wangchuk's decision to end his fast, the protest campaign remains active. Leaders of the CJP and participating students continue to press for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him accountable for the controversy. Meanwhile, representatives of the protest groups are expected to meet government officials in the coming days as both sides continue discussions on education reforms and measures to curb examination malpractice.
