Passengers Rush Cockpit After Pilot Stabbing on Dubai-to-Israel Flight
Dramatic footage recorded inside a Flydubai passenger aircraft has captured the chaotic aftermath of a violent cockpit confrontation that unfolded during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The incident occurred on September 30 aboard flight FZ1073, which was carrying 174 people when one pilot allegedly attacked and stabbed the other during the journey.
According to passenger accounts and Israeli officials, the aircraft was cruising at around 34,000 feet when it suddenly began a steep descent. Flight-tracking data showed the Boeing 737 dropping by more than 14,000 feet in roughly 30 seconds before later stabilising at a much lower altitude. The sudden movement caused panic inside the cabin, with passengers initially believing they were experiencing severe turbulence.
The situation became clearer when passengers realised that a violent struggle had taken place inside the cockpit. Israeli officials said the co-pilot had stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, and allegedly attempted to interfere with the aircraft's controls. The precise motive remains under investigation, and Flydubai has cautioned against drawing conclusions before authorities complete their inquiry.
As the emergency unfolded, passengers and crew members moved toward the cockpit. Reports say Machchhar, despite being seriously injured, managed to release the cockpit door, allowing people outside to enter. Passengers then helped subdue the alleged attacker, while additional Flydubai pilots who were travelling on the aircraft took control of the flight.
