India Unveils 'Sudarshan Chakra', A New Multi-Layered Defence Shield Against Air Threats

India is expanding its air defence capabilities through Project Kusha, an indigenous long-range missile system being developed to work alongside the Russian-origin S-400. The advanced network is intended to counter a range of aerial threats, including hostile aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles across different engagement ranges. The combination of the S-400 and Project Kusha could eventually form a comprehensive, layered air defence umbrella designed to safeguard key military assets as well as vital civilian infrastructure. With security challenges continuing to evolve in the region, the development of homegrown defence technology also reflects India’s broader push toward self-reliance and a stronger, more advanced air defence architecture.
