Imran Khan's Son Urges Meeting With Andy Burnham, Calls for Greater UK Support

The sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Sulaiman Khan and Kasim Khan, have expressed frustration with the British government, accusing it of not doing enough over their father’s continued imprisonment. Speaking to The Telegraph, the brothers said they were disappointed with the level of support they received when they explored the possibility of travelling to Pakistan to visit Khan. According to Sulaiman and Kasim, former British Foreign Secretary David Lammy advised them not to make the trip and told them that the UK government would not be in a position to assist if they were arrested or detained in Pakistan. Lammy held the foreign secretary position between July 2024 and September 2025. The brothers argued that Britain could have taken a stronger diplomatic position regarding their father’s detention. They said international scrutiny of Khan’s imprisonment should have prompted greater pressure on Pakistani authorities. Sulaiman and Kasim have also faced difficulties in trying to travel to Pakistan themselves. They said their efforts to obtain visas have repeatedly been unsuccessful, with applications reportedly rejected over technical issues. As a result, the brothers have not been able to meet their father face-to-face for several years. The issue has gained renewed international attention amid continuing concerns about Khan’s conditions in prison and his access to healthcare. His sons have repeatedly urged governments and international organisations to take stronger steps to ensure that they can meet with him and assess his situation directly.
