Heathrow Airport Shuts Down After Fire Triggers Major Power Outage
Heathrow Airport will remain closed throughout Friday after a fire broke out at a nearby electrical substation that supplies power to the facility. As the UK’s busiest airport, Heathrow has warned of “significant disruption” in the coming days and urged passengers not to travel “under any circumstances” until operations resume.
The outage has impacted more than 1,300 flights worldwide, causing widespread travel disruptions. The London Fire Brigade deployed around 70 firefighters to tackle the blaze, though the cause of the fire remains unknown. Beyond the airport, the fire has also left over 16,000 homes without power and forced the evacuation of approximately 150 residents from surrounding properties in west London.
