The Manipur security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination efforts in the vulnerable hill and valley districts to maintain peace and prevent further escalation, according to an official statement from the Manipur Police on Sunday.
During searches in the Phayeng Porom Hill and K Songlung areas under Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts, security forces recovered a significant cache of items. These included 11 live SLR ammunition rounds, an SLR magazine, 66 empty SLR cartridges, a radio set battery with an antenna, a misfired AK round, 102 empty AK cartridges, two empty SLR cartridges, a 12-bore cartridge, and a locally made bomb.
The operations follow an October 1 incident in which armed miscreants forcefully seized an SUV (Fortuner) from a civilian in Imphal West. The vehicle was later found to have been used by AT member Asem Kanan Singh (50), from Uripok Sorbon Thingel, and his associates. On Sunday, a combined security team raided Singh’s residence but was unable to apprehend him or his associates. However, several items were seized, including a CCTV DVD machine, an i-20 vehicle, three olive-green bags, a yellow SDRF-marked life jacket, an air gun (Hurricane MOD-18), and two bulletproof jackets with metal plates.
In a separate development, the Manipur Police arrested Khumbongmayum Abhijit Singh (26), an active PREPAK cadre, from Kakching Chumnang in Kakching District.
Meanwhile, 371 vehicles carrying essential goods were safely escorted along NH-2 under tight security measures, with convoy protection in sensitive regions. Security forces have established 106 Nakas/Checkpoints across various districts to maintain order, with no violations reported.
The Manipur Police urged the public to avoid falling for rumors and to verify questionable videos through the Central Control Room via their rumor-free hotline, 9233522822. They also appealed for the immediate return of looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the nearest police station or security forces.
