Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on a three-day visit to Russia, met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday, highlighting the enduring strength of the India-Russia relationship. Singh described the friendship between the two nations as "higher than the highest mountain and deeper than the deepest ocean."
Both leaders emphasized the significant potential of their partnership, expressing confidence that their combined efforts would lead to notable achievements. Singh's visit follows his co-chairing of the 21st session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Cooperation with Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov.
During the meeting, Singh reaffirmed India's unwavering support for Russia and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's warm regards to President Putin.
Singh's visit comes five months after PM Modi's trip to Moscow for summit talks with Putin, during which both sides agreed to further enhance defence and military cooperation. PM Modi also attended the BRICS summit in Russia in October, and President Putin is scheduled to visit India next year for the annual summit.
In his discussions with Belousov, Singh called for the expedited delivery of the remaining two units of the S-400 Triumf missile systems to India and highlighted new opportunities for Russian defence industries in India, particularly in joint production of military equipment. He reiterated India's commitment to its special and privileged strategic partnership with Russia. Additionally, Singh attended the commissioning of a Russian-made guided missile frigate into the Indian Navy at Kaliningrad on Monday.
