Earlier this year, Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, popularly known as Uncle Roger, 33, launched his first restaurant, Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger, in the upscale Pavilion KL shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. The KL-born comedian, now residing in the United States, recently returned to Malaysia to celebrate the grand opening of his second and third restaurant outlets. These new locations are situated in KL’s MyTown mall and the IPC Shopping Centre in Selangor.
Uncle Roger seems to have taken customer feedback seriously. In an interview with influencer Sam Wong, he shared that he had lowered the price of his signature fried rice.
Although business remains strong at the Pavilion KL outlet, Uncle Roger acknowledged that some customers had raised concerns about the original price of RM18 being too steep, even though it was reasonable for the area. In response, the price at his MyTown outlet has been reduced to RM16 (S$4.80) from RM18 (S$5.40).
He noted that the Pavilion location, surrounded by luxury boutiques, attracts a different clientele compared to the more casual crowd at MyTown.
The price adjustment has been warmly received by fans, with some even asking if he plans to open more outlets outside of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Given Uncle Roger's immense popularity in Singapore, there is hope that he may consider expanding across the Causeway in the future.
