The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army responded to a distress call from the civil administration to evacuate tourists stranded in Gulmarg due to heavy snowfall, which led to the closure of the road to Tanmarg. On Saturday, the Army evacuated 68 civilians, including 30 men and women each, and eight children, while also providing food, shelter, and medical aid to 137 tourists.
In a social media post on X, the Chinar Corps stated, "Chinar Warriors responded to a distress call to evacuate tourists stranded due to heavy snowfall in Gulmarg, resulting in the closure of the road to Tanmarg. We evacuated 68 civilians, including 30 women, 30 men, and 8 children, and provided hot meals, shelter, and medication to a total of 137 tourists."
In a separate incident, the Chinar Corps also evacuated a pregnant woman from Kulgam district amid heavy snowfall. The rescue team reached her location and provided immediate medical assistance before transferring her to the Government Hospital in Yaripora.

Despite the heavy snowfall, the rescue team reached the location on time, provided lifesaving medical assistance, and evacuated her to the Government Hospital in Yaripora."
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mentioned that around 2,000 vehicles were stranded in Qazigund town in Anantnag after the valley's first snowfall of the season. He stated that he had discussed the situation with the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, noting that heavy vehicles were being allowed to move and efforts were underway to clear the remaining stranded vehicles.
Srinagar, known for its scenic beauty, welcomed the winter season with its first snowfall on Friday, and Baramulla and other districts in Jammu and Kashmir also received fresh snowfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir until December 30.
