BEIJING — ByteDance has launched a new text-to-video software, joining the competitive field of AI video generation tools that includes OpenAI's Sora. OpenAI's model, unveiled in February and not yet publicly available, has spurred rapid development of similar technologies in China.
ByteDance’s new tool, Jimeng AI, developed by its subsidiary Faceu Technology, is now accessible to Chinese users via the Apple App Store, following its earlier release on Android. This launch comes as Chinese tech firms increasingly introduce their own text-to-video models.
Kuaishou, a major video app in China, released its Kling AI text-to-video model to a global audience last month, while Zhipu AI and Shengshu have also introduced their video-generating models, Ying and Vidu, respectively.
Faceu Technology, a part of ByteDance’s Jianying division known for the CapCut video editing app, offers Jimeng AI through subscription plans: 69 yuan ($12.75) monthly, 79 yuan for a single month, or 659 yuan annually. Each subscription allows users to create approximately 2,050 images or 168 AI videos per month.
