New Delhi: Officials reported on Wednesday that an oil tanker in Bihar was discovered to be transporting liquor. Approximately 200 crates of beer were found inside a Hindustan Petroleum tanker, which has since been taken to the excise police station. The tanker, registered in Nagaland, was seized in Muzaffarpur, while the smugglers managed to escape.
According to officials, the excise department acted on a tip about the liquor shipment, leading them to assemble a team to apprehend the smugglers. When they set up a roadblock, the smugglers diverted the tanker onto a national highway.
“After a chase, the driver and the liquor trader abandoned the tanker on the national highway and fled,” said Vijay Shekhar Dubey, Assistant Excise Commissioner.
The seized alcohol was produced in Arunachal Pradesh. Authorities are working to identify the local trader involved in the smuggling and are conducting raids to apprehend him. A case has also been registered against him.
In Bihar, where the sale of liquor is prohibited, people often find creative ways to obtain alcohol. Smugglers frequently devise new methods for transporting liquor, including using ambulances and trucks. There have even been cases where smugglers have constructed hidden compartments within petrol tanks to conceal liquor bottles.
