U.S.: Kamala Harris stated on Tuesday that America is "absolutely" ready to elect its first female president but downplayed the significance of her candidacy, emphasizing her desire to move beyond the exhausting era of Donald Trump.
With just two weeks until Election Day, both Harris and Trump are actively campaigning in swing states, holding rallies and participating in various media platforms to gain an edge in a tightly contested race.
During an interview on NBC, Harris affirmed that the nation is ready for a female president, but reiterated that her campaign is focused on "turning the page." She expressed that people are tired of Trump’s self-centered leadership.
In contrast, Trump, addressing supporters in North Carolina, delivered a starkly different message, framing the election as a choice between more years of "incompetence, failure, and disaster" or the beginning of "the four greatest years in the history of our country." He frequently insulted Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, during his rally.
The election atmosphere is marked by heightened tensions and concerns over potential violence or Trump's refusal to accept the results if he loses, as he continues to dispute his 2020 defeat.
Harris assured NBC that her campaign is prepared for the possibility of Trump declaring victory prematurely during a vote-counting process that could take several days.
Biden, who has made infrequent appearances in Harris's campaign, took a jab at Trump, playfully referencing the ex-president's infamous "Lock her up" chant by saying, "we got to lock Trump up"—adding quickly, "politically lock him up."
As Trump faces several criminal charges while competing against Harris to succeed Biden, the White House has been cautious not to comment on the Republican's legal issues. The Trump campaign responded by accusing Biden and Harris of having a "plan all along... to politically persecute their opponent."
Approximately 18 million Americans have already voted, either by mail or in person, representing over 10% of the total votes in 2020. Some recent polls suggest that Trump, at 78, the oldest major party nominee in U.S. history, has a slight advantage, although all results are within the margin of error.
Regardless of the outcome, U.S. voters will make history on November 5, either by electing the country's first female president or by placing the first convicted felon in the White House.
Harris, 60, is enlisting two of the party's most popular figures, Barack and Michelle Obama, to campaign for her. At a rally in Madison, the former president passionately criticized Trump, urging attendees, "Don't boo, vote!"
Later, at a major Harris campaign event in Detroit, rapper Eminem increased the star power by introducing Obama, who humorously noted, "I don't usually get nervous, but I was feeling some kinda way following Eminem," before reciting lyrics from Eminem's hit "Lose Yourself."
Meanwhile, Trump has been increasingly promoting conspiracy theories on the campaign trail, often targeting migrants and political opponents. During a meeting with Latino leaders in Florida, he claimed, "As president, you have tremendous — it's called extreme power. You can just say, 'Close the border,' and the border's closed."
The Harris campaign is focusing on questioning Trump's mental and physical fitness for the presidency while also trying to appeal to moderate Republican voters. John Kelly, a former Marine general and one of Trump's top aides, confirmed to The New York Times that he viewed the former president as a fascist, stating that Trump exhibits authoritarian tendencies and admires dictators.
Joe Rogan, host of one of the most popular podcasts in America, is set to release his interview with Trump on Friday. Non-traditional media, including podcasts, have played a crucial role in reaching specific demographics like young women and Black men during the campaign.
