New Delhi: AAP has announced that Atishi will be sworn in as Delhi's Chief Minister on Saturday. Initially, the party planned for Atishi to be the sole person taking the oath, but it has since been decided that her entire council of ministers will also be sworn in.
Atishi will succeed Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned from the position on Tuesday. AAP has stated that Kejriwal will relinquish his security and vacate the chief minister’s residence within 15 days to live a more ordinary life.
Representing the Kalkaji constituency, Atishi currently holds the most significant number of portfolios in the Delhi government. She was appointed to the Delhi cabinet in March 2023, following challenges faced by AAP due to the arrest of Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case, from which Sisodia has since been released on bail.
Atishi will play a crucial role as AAP gears up for upcoming assembly elections, aiming to retain power in the capital. AAP has also called for early assembly elections, the last of which took place in early 2020.
