Daisy Ridley Trains with Olympian Siobhan-Marie O'Connor for Marathon Swimmer Role

In preparation for her new career as a marathon swimmer, Daisy Ridley trained with Olympian Siobhan-Marie O'Connor for several months. The lead role in the biopic Young Woman and the Sea is played by the actress from Star Wars. Gertrude Ederle was an American swimmer who made history in 1926 when she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. She trained intensely in the Black Sea for months under the guidance of Siobhan, the British silver medallist.
Variety was told by director Joachim Ronning, "I wanted to be on the ocean." I desired to be in the actual weather, swimming alongside Daisy Ridley in the chilly sea and currents. "[Daisy] began training with English Olympic swimmer Siobhan-Marie O'Connor for open water swimming for months on end. She learnt period swimming, or how people swam a century ago, from their training. She was a tough girl when she entered the sea. Her lips were getting blue as she asked, "Do you want one more?," never complaining and always going for it."
Daisy had previously disclosed that the swimming on camera was quite difficult. "I was really alone in the Black Sea, and I was really trying to keep pace with the camera," she said to Deadline during the film's premiere. I then tried to maintain a steady pace with both the boat and the camera boat." We exercised while filming, and I trained for three months."And then we did the big swim at the end," the Star Wars actress continued. Thus, nine days were spent on the Black Sea. It was too much.
