Popular food delivery platform Swiggy has unveiled a report that sheds light on vegetarian food trends across India. According to their internal analysis, Bengaluru emerges as the city with the highest number of vegetarian orders. Swiggy humorously refers to Bangalore as not only the Silicon Valley of India but also the Veggie Valley, noting that one in every three vegetarian orders on the platform originates from this city. The top vegetarian dishes ordered in Bengaluru include Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala.
Mumbai comes in second place for the highest number of vegetarian orders. The most popular vegetarian dishes in Mumbai are Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji. Hyderabad ranks third in this list, with Masala Dosa and Idli being the leading vegetarian choices. These cities reflect a diverse palate of vegetarian preferences across major urban centers in India.
Swiggy's report also provides a broader view of vegetarian food trends across the country. It reveals that six of the top ten most-ordered dishes nationwide are vegetarian. Masala Dosa, Paneer Butter Masala, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji feature prominently among these popular choices, highlighting the widespread appeal of vegetarian cuisine in India. The report underscores the growing trend and demand for vegetarian options, demonstrating the country's vibrant and varied food culture.
