Washington: Authorities in Washington state have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a deadly shooting that resulted in the deaths of five individuals at a home near Seattle.
The incident took place early Monday morning in Fall City, located east of Seattle, after multiple 911 calls were received reporting the shooting, according to a police spokesperson.
Mike Mellis, a spokesperson for the King County Sheriff's Office, stated during a media briefing on Monday afternoon that officers found five bodies when they entered the house. The victims included two adults and three teenagers, although their identities have not yet been disclosed.
The police quickly apprehended one teenage suspect, while another injured individual was taken to a hospital for treatment. It was noted that a neighbor had provided first aid before emergency services arrived.
"Once we recovered the bodies, we knew this was a highly significant crime scene," Mellis said.
Authorities also confirmed that the victims were members of the same family, though it has not been verified if all were directly related. The Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation to establish a motive for the shooting.
The teenage suspect is currently being held at the King County juvenile detention center. Mellis mentioned that the teen is expected to appear in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday or Wednesday, as confirmed by the county Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Teen shootings have been increasingly common in the US. Recently, a 14-year-old boy was charged with murder for fatally shooting four individuals, including two students and two teachers, at Apalachee High School in Georgia.
While polls show that most Americans favor stricter gun purchase and usage regulations, efforts to implement additional restrictions face strong opposition from influential gun ownership lobbying groups, leading to stalled legislative action.
