New Delhi: India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations after Islamabad reportedly used the term “Fitna al-Hindustan” while referring to militant and separatist groups operating in Pakistan’s Balochistan region. Speaking at a UN Security Council session on Afghanistan, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, accused Pakistan of running what he described as an “organised factory of hate” against India. He said Pakistan was attempting to spread misinformation and divert attention from its own internal issues by repeatedly blaming India for unrest within its borders.

The sharp exchange came amid rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries over regional security and cross-border militancy. India rejected Pakistan’s allegations that New Delhi supports insurgent activities in Balochistan. Indian officials said the use of the phrase “Fitna al-Hindustan” was part of a propaganda campaign designed to create hostility against India and influence public opinion domestically.

During the UN meeting, India also raised concerns over Pakistan’s military actions inside Afghanistan. The Indian representative criticised airstrikes that reportedly caused civilian casualties, saying counter-terrorism operations should not result in harm to innocent civilians. Pakistan has in recent months increasingly used the phrase “Fitna al-Hindustan” in official narratives while accusing India of supporting anti-state groups. India has consistently denied the allegations and accused Pakistan of using such claims to shift focus away from political instability, economic challenges, and security concerns within the country.

The diplomatic confrontation once again highlighted the deep mistrust between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Analysts say both India and Pakistan are increasingly using international platforms to shape global opinion and strengthen their narratives on regional security issues. The latest remarks at the United Nations are expected to further strain already tense bilateral relations between the two countries.
